Individual Seats

Individual seat reservations are available for guests who wish to attend the gala on their own or with a small number of companions without reserving a full table. Individual seats are assigned seating at a shared table, and you may request seating near specific guests when you submit your reservation — we accommodate these requests whenever possible based on availability. Individual seats include the full five-course dinner service, a keepsake program booklet, access to the reception cocktail hour preceding the formal dinner, and all entertainment and ceremony programming throughout the evening.

Individual seats are the most accessible entry point to the gala and are popular with guests who are attending for the first time, those who are honoring a specific individual being recognized that evening, and community members who want to be part of the celebration but do not have a large group to bring. We welcome solo attendees and make every effort to ensure that individually seated guests are placed at convivial tables where they will be comfortable and engaged throughout the evening.

Reserved Tables for Groups

Reserved tables are the preferred option for families celebrating an honoree, businesses and organizations bringing a team, community groups, faith communities, and anyone else who wants to experience the gala as part of a cohesive group. Tables seat eight to ten guests and are reserved as a unit. Group reservations are assigned premium table placement with the best sight lines to both the stage and the recognition podium, and group coordinators receive dedicated support from our event team in the weeks before the gala to ensure a smooth experience on the night.

Tables are particularly meaningful when the group includes an honoree's family and closest supporters. We have seen multi-generational family tables where grandparents, parents, and children all watched together as a family member received recognition — and those moments are among the most moving of any gala evening. Sponsor Tables and VIP Packages

Sponsor tables and VIP packages are available for businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to support the Juneteenth NYC mission at a higher level while attending the gala in premium style. Sponsor tables include all the benefits of a standard group reservation plus elevated placement closest to the stage, VIP reception access before the general cocktail hour opens, individual recognition in the gala program and during the evening's ceremonies, and dedicated liaison support from the Juneteenth NYC team throughout the planning and execution of the event.

VIP package holders are also invited to a private pre-gala reception with Juneteenth NYC leadership, past honorees, and selected community leaders. This intimate gathering — typically held in the early evening before the main event begins — is one of the most valued aspects of the VIP experience and creates genuine connections among attendees who share a deep commitment to the Juneteenth NYC mission. Dress Code

The Black Kings dinner gala is a formal occasion, and we ask all guests to dress accordingly. The dress code is black tie optional, which means that tuxedos, formal suits, gowns, and formal cocktail attire are all appropriate choices. Business casual attire is not appropriate for this event. We encourage guests to express their personal style within the formal framework — Juneteenth NYC has always celebrated the full range of Black aesthetic expression, and our galas have featured everything from classic formal wear to stunning Afrocentric formal attire to avant-garde couture. What matters is that you dress with the occasion's formality and dignity in mind.

Many past guests have used the gala as an opportunity to support Black fashion designers by wearing garments from our fashion show alumni or other Black designers. Several designers from our annual fashion show specialize in formalwear and have dressed gala guests in the past.

Venue and Location

The Black Kings dinner gala is held at a premier New York City venue selected for its combination of elegance, accessibility, and capacity. We choose venues that can accommodate the full scope of our event — a cocktail reception, a multi-course dinner service, a recognition ceremony, and live entertainment — while providing an atmosphere that reflects the occasion's significance. All gala venues are accessible by public transportation, and we provide guidance on parking options for guests who prefer to drive. The Dining Experience

The Black Kings dinner features a five-course meal developed in collaboration with culinary teams whose work reflects the rich tradition of African American and African diaspora cuisine alongside contemporary fine dining. Past menus have celebrated Southern culinary traditions, Caribbean flavors, West African influences, and modern interpretations of dishes with deep cultural significance in the Black American experience. We are committed to the meal being not just excellent food but food with meaning — dishes that connect to the history and culture that Juneteenth celebrates.

Dietary accommodations including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available and can be requested when you make your reservation. If you have serious food allergies or specific dietary requirements beyond these standard options, please contact our catering team in advance so we can ensure your meal is safe and enjoyable. Entertainment and Program

The evening's program is curated to be a complete experience rather than just a dinner with an awards ceremony tacked on. The program typically includes live musical performance during the reception and between dinner courses, spoken word or poetry performance, a brief historical reflection connecting the evening's celebration to the broader meaning of Juneteenth, the formal recognition ceremony at which honorees receive their awards and are introduced to the room by the community members who nominated them, and a closing performance or celebration to send guests into the night with joy.

We also feature a commemorative program booklet that every guest receives at their seat. The booklet includes profiles of all honorees, historical context about Juneteenth and the Black Kings recognition program, and recognition of our sponsors and community partners. Many past guests have told us that the program booklet becomes a cherished keepsake that they return to for years after the event.
